7/27/2001Jak's Grill is a great steakhouse in Issaquah that is so inconspicuous you can easily miss it. The blinds are drawn, and there are no markings except for a small green neon sign. But once inside, you will find a fine high-class atmosphere, friendly and knowledgable staff, and great steaks. The icing on the cake - the prices! Jak's serves complete steak dinners for between $20-25, which include large (16oz) cuts of prime steak prepared VERY well, salad, a small side vegetable, and a potato side. You get 90% of the quality of a fancy steakhouse like Daniel's Broiler or Metropolitan Grill for about 50% of the price. We tried both the Delmonico and Filet Mignon steaks. Both were very good, but the Filet
won on flavor and tenderness hands down. We also tried the garlic mashed potatoes and the
potato cakes. In this battle, the potato cakes were the no-contest favorite. They also have
Mac & Jack's beer on tap (my favorite). Our only disappointment was the salad - with
everything else prepared so well, this looked like it came out of a bag.
4/24/2002I didn't think Jak's had much room for improvement, but they surprised me. Maybe they read our previous review, or maybe enough people complained about the lame salad, but they've improved it! Steaks are still the centerpiece, but at least they tossed the lame salad (pun intended) and replaced it with a basic fresh green salad. Sure it's simple lettuce and dressing with few amenities, but at least the greens were fresh. No wilty bag salad this time. The filet is still tops here, although we tried their special... skewers of
Filet Mignon with a blue cheese sauce. It was excellent, and I highly recommend it.
You can even order the skewers as rare as you desire, and they will come out right.
Let the Mac & Jacks flow, and get some chocolate cake, if you can find the stomach
space. Jak's remains my favorite steakhouse, and continues to exceed expectations.
